Another Word From Dana

The Bull Dawgs are playing and winning! The air instead of hot is cool. The time is changing with days getting shorter and nights getting longer. The pine needles are dropping. All signs of the time .... yes, fall is just around the corner.

What a great God we have who has ordered all the seasons to come and go in just the right time. What a great God we have who gives us all we need when we need it. What a great God who orders all and sets it free at our disposal. What a great God we have!

I hope you will take these days and draw closer to God, and fall into His loving arms and heart. I pray that during these shorter days and longer nights you will find time to listen and time to be still and know just who our God is and how much God loves you. Take these moments and these day and make them be for you a sacred time.

I hope the Dawgs keep winning and the air stays cool but there is no guarantee about that; however, there is a guarantee that God is in control and will bless all God's children if we stand still enough to let the blessing fall upon us.

Take some time this fall to be blessed.

Grace and Peace,

Dana

NEW SERMON SERIES  - WHOM SHALL I SEND

Is God calling you? God has a need for men and women to be set apart for a holy calling; a calling of the  Ordained Ministry. God also has a need for men and women to be set apart for a holy calling; a calling of every day living, in many vocations. Over these two weeks we will be exploring how God is calling and why God calls and who God calls. Maybe God is calling you into Ordained Ministry? Maybe God is calling you to be an IT person. God is calling. We want to help you hear that voice and say "Here am I, send me"

On the 19th...Rev. Mike Broome preaching
On the 26th...Rev. Dana Everhart preaching

On Sunday, September 26th, the UMW will sponsor a Mission Study entitled " For the Love of God: The Letters of John".  We will meet in The Coan Fellowship Hall immediately following the 11:00 Service for a light lunch provided by our UMW Circles, after which Alice Smith will lead the 4-hour study.  In preparation, it is suggested that participants read the Epistles of John from the Bible.  Everyone is invited to join us for this spiritual growth experience.  A nursery will be provided.
A SPECIAL INVITE FOR ALL WOMEN
All ladies are invited to attend the kick-off meeting for Adah Newman - Bertha Bunn Circle on Wednesday, September 8, 2010.  This is a covered-dish lunch. Please bring school supply donations. The time is 11:30 am. Don't miss the fun!

OVER 50's TRIP ... NOT TOO LATE

.                         WARM SPRINGS TRIP UPDATE!

Join the "Over 50's Group" as we travel south...

Warm Spring
Saturday, September 11th
Departure time is 8:30 a.m.

As it says above, this is an update (with additions) to the Warm Springs trip itinerary.  The date for sign-up is being changed in order to give more time and the cost will be reduced somewhat because Hugh Goodwin is buying the fuel for the bus.*
If the bus is full, some will have to drive, but it an easy 60 mile trip by following these directions:

-Travel I-75 South (from McDonough) to Exit # 205 (Griffin/Jackson)...
-Turn Right (West) on GA-16 towards Griffin...
-Travel 28.2 miles through Griffin into Senoia...
-Turn Left (South) on GA-85...
-Travel 21.9 miles through the towns of Haralson, Alvaton, and Gay...
-Veer Right onto ALT-GA-85 towards Warm Springs...
-Travel 10 miles into Warm Springs, GA

Change #1: Hugh Goodwin is arranging for a tour of his (GoodPac) bottle manufacturing facility in Warm Springs, so you can see how water bottles are blown. Hugh also has everyone a GoodPac golf hat and some "Callaway Blue" bottled water, bottled by the Callaways' in nearby Hamilton, GA.

Hugh also has some history trivia to challenge you with.  This trivia ranges from (of course) Franklin Delano Roosevelt, to Johnny Cash, to Pierre Howard, Jr. (in case you've forgotten, he was our Lt. Governor at one time), to Roy Richards (Anyone know who he was?), to a member who was born 3 miles away in Manchester, and whose father was Superintendent of Schools, to another MFUMC member (now deceased) who grew up in Warm Springs, and whose stepfather managed the farm for FDR, and whose great uncle was Marshall of Warm Springs...AND MUCH MUCH MORE!!

We will still:
* Visit Exhibits & Displays on the largest Airborne Operation "WWII Operation Market Garden" & visit a Depression house.
* Tour the Little White House,
* Lunch at the famous 100 year old Bullock House & Buffet featuring fried chicken & fried green tomatoes (Does anybody know the connection between the Bullock House and Roswell, GA?)
* Cost:  $25.00 total p/p (admission & lunch)
Change #2: Reservations and money need to be made and paid by September 6th (Instead of September 1st)
*Call the church office for reservations today.*
Disciple I, II, III and IV
Registration is complete and we have an incredible group planned for our Disciple Bible Study Ministry.  All of our classes will begin the week of September 20th.  Teachers are asked to contact their students and e-mail Amy May with your material orders.

We want to thank the following who have agreed to teach this session...
     Disciple I - Rob Beall;
     Disciple II - Alice Smith;
Disciple III - Bobbi Stone; and
Disciple IV - Rick Kendrick, Joe Thorp and Ernest Blount.

This will be a great season of learning and we are already lining up teachers for the Fall 2011 Session.

Special Saturdays...Special Needs Children
McDonough First United Methodist Church has been chosen as a southside site for Extra Special Respite Saturdays.

FOCUS offers the Extra Special Saturday Respite Program in eight locations around metro Atlanta. Children with extra special needs require extra experienced care that is often difficult to find and expensive. Each location of Extra Special Saturday has caregivers who are knowledgeable and experienced in caring for children with special needs. Extra Special Saturday is a wonderful time for the children to enjoy free play, music, and extra attention from FOCUS. Oh, and the parents enjoy the break!!

This is a wonderful new ministry that we are able to offer because you have continued to support the ministries of your church.  For more information, to refer a needy friend or family or to find out how you can help, please go to www.focus-ga.org/respite.htm or contact Karen Greenfield at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. THE ACADEMY - Kim Westbrook, Director

Congratulations to Cheryl Trainum, our Employee of the Month.  Ms. Cheryl serves as a 3K Teacher and Lunch Bunch Teacher.  She has a wonderful and cheerful attitude and is loved by her students.  The ultimate team player, she is always gracious and willing to lend a helping hand.  Thank you so much, Cheryl, for your dedication to the students and staff at MMA.  We love you!
McDONOUGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL...our partner in education

At its August meeting, the Missions Team voted unanimously to continue our Partner-In-Education relationship with our community school, McDonough Elementary School.  This is our third year in this partnership and has become a valuable part of our mission and outreach ministry as we were the first church to partner with this school.

Last year, over 20 adults volunteered as mentors at McDonough Elementary.  The school skyrocketed from some of the lowest scores in the county to some of the highest.  We need more volunteers who will give one hour per week.  Please let us know if you are interested by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Is God calling you to share just one hour per week and change the life of a young person?

SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR MISSIONS

Below is a list of needed supplies.  Many of these, since school has started, are on sale.  Please start shopping and bring these items to the bin located at the bottom of the stairs inside the Griffin Street Door.  Come on, McDonough, we need your help!

Needed supplies include:  wide-ruled notebook paper, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, scissors, glue sticks, folders, notebooks,
crayons, backpacks, and dry erase markers.

The Bazaar Is Coming!

Every fall, 1000's of items are collected.  Every fall, 100's of guests and volunteers descend on The Rodgers Building Gymnasium.  Every fall, the call goes out for all of your STUFF!

It is that time of year, folks, to clean out your attic, your closet, your garage and even under your bed.  The 2010 Fall Bazaar and Flea Market is coming and this year hopes to be bigger than ever.  The date is Saturday, October 9th, beginning at 8 a.m.  We will spend Thursday and Friday pricing and setting up.  Wednesday evening we will unload the trailer.

Once again, the blue box trailer (no steps this year) is located in the lower lot for your donations.  The key is in the church office.  Once again, our teams will come to your home if you need help with moving furniture or larger items.  Once again, we will need all hands to make this event a success.  This year, our goal is to raise $15,000 (We raised $10,175 and $11,600 in 2008 and 2009 respectively.)

If every member gave just two hours of their time, we would have more than enough help.  This year's event will be led by our Mission Team with proceeds going toward the McDonough First Building Fund, Local Mission and our Fair Share Missional Giving throughout the world.  Start spreading the word.  The Bazaar is coming!  The Bazaar is coming!  The Bazaar is coming!

If you know of interested vendors, please have them contact the church office.
The Bazaar Is Coming!

Upward Sports...Basketball & Cheerleading
Not a Recreation Ministry but an Outreach Ministry

Experts say people are looking for friends, not just a friendly church.

We are a friendly church.  We have heard this over and over again.  Now it is time that we make more friends.

This 2010/2011 Upward Sports season will be our best ever.  We will be offering K-6th grade boys and girls basketball and cheerleading.

The registration brochures are printed and available online and in the church office.  We challenge every member to take some home and give them to friends, neighbors and strangers.  This year, you will be able to register online and use our pay pal account to pay online.

We have begun recruiting coaches, referees and volunteers, all of which we will train.  More will come regarding our needs.

We are surrounding this ministry with 100 days of prayer by over 200 prayer warriors.  Our prayer captains this year are:  Karen DeVan, Rick Kendrick and Disciple IV, Keith Shurbutt, Ginny Cates, Brenda Sutton, Ron McKenzie, Jim Gorham, Mary Gorham, Dale Smith, and Dan Hocking and The Samaritans Class.

We will offer training and begin recruiting coaches, assistanct coaches, referees and hospitality volunteers...NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

Join us by praying for this ministry.  Join us by getting a yard sign and placing it in your front yard (we are looking for high-traffic yards and those at the front of large subdivisions).  Join us as we welcome over 250 children from our community and help them and their families grown in their relationships with Jesus Christ!

Men's Wesley Faith Groups

Men's Wesley Faith Group will be starting up again.  Calling all men.  Are you looking for a small group of guys that you can share your challenges and struggles with?  A group that you can trust and who will join you in prayer and Bible study?  A group that supports one another?

We are currently looking at offering our ministry on Friday mornings and Sunday afternoons.  If you are interested in Friday mornings, please contact Shane Hunter ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  If you are interested in Sunday afternoons, please contact Joe Mobley ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  In either case, you may also share your interest with Mike.  Join us as we make a difference in the lives of our men and watch as a difference is made in the lives of their spouses and families.
Peru Mission Trip 2011...Is God Calling You
On A Mission Trip?

Several of you have asked about our next mission trip.  During this month's Mission Team planning meeting, it was discussed and agreed upon that we should choose one location and commit to supporting that mission ministry with our resources and missionaries, for a period of 3 to 5 years.

We are pleased to announce that initial conversations have begun regarding a return trip to Peru to work with the McEuen Missionary Family (the father, Rev. Ash McEuen is an Ordained Elder in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and is under appointment of our Bishop to serve in ministry there.)

The current date we are looking at would be the week of winter break in the Henry County School System, February 19th - 26th, 2011.

Please be in prayer about this ministry and if God is calling you to go.  As we gather more information, we will begin having information sessions for all who are interested.  Leadership will be recruited for this team.  If your are interested, please contact Mike at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. This week I will be meeting with our Staff Parish Relations Team to look at my ministry in review. I will be discussing with this gifted and called group of people my Qualities of Leadership and my Vocational Competencies, Together we will see how I can improve in my ministry and my personal life so that the gospel will be lifted up. On September 1st, I will head to Griffin to meet with the DS to share what the SPRT has said and to see how he, as my Superintendent, can help me to be the man that McDonough First UMC needs and that I need to be.

Between the SPRT and the DS, we will work together on goals and plans for 2011 that will make me a better pastor, preacher, and prophet of the Word of God. Also, we will work on personal goals and plans to make me a better husband, father, and friend.

All of us need to be reviewed from time to time in regards to our living for Jesus Christ. This is not to have our shortcomings pointed out and not to be beaten up by other "pure breads" but so that we may be given direction on how we might become better at living the life of blessing God has for us. To look at how our life is reflecting the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how, if by any way, we might improve or even celebrate the successes.

I think this is a daily thing when I stop to consider it ... reviewing and moving forward.

Well, I covet your prayers and ask for your grace in these days, for I want to be the best pastor I can be for you and for the kingdom.

Grace and Peace,

Dana

Despite his flaws and challenges, in the end Jacob was blessed by God and managed to redeem himself and his broken relationships. If you've ever wrested with God, struggled with relationships or done things you're not proud of, you'll see yourself in Jacob's story.

YOUTH NEWS - Gary Terrell, Minister to Students

Sunday, August 22nd 2009:

We had a blast with 21 of our students as we studied Hebrews 3:12-14 and how when we wrestle with God, we can support each other and depend on God to be there for us through any situation, even praises. We began our fellowship with the reading of Hebrews 13 and proceeded to talk about supporting each other within the youth ministry group. We then wrote down our prayers and praises on post-it notes and created a "prayer board" on which to  stick them. We played a couple of games then closed with prayer before dinner. After dinner, we had an exciting game of kickball in our gym.

Our students and parents are building this group around themselves. They are nurturing each other, supporting each other, and learning to love one another as individuals. I am proud of this group and what they are accomplishing together.

Thanks for all the support and continued prayers.

Gary

We would also appreciate it if you would collect and donate the following items:

Coke lids or reward codes from 12-packs
Tyson labels
McDONOUGH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL...our partner in education

At its August meeting, the Missions Team voted unanimously to continue our Partner-In-Education relationship with our community school, McDonough Elementary School.  This is our third year in this partnership and it has become a valuable part of our mission and outreach ministry as we were the first church to partner with this school.

Last year, over 20 adults volunteered as mentors at McDonough Elementary.  The school skyrocketed from some of the lowest scores in the county to some of the highest.  Students who were failing at the beginning of the school year were excelling by the third session.  Teachers and staff struggling with furlough days and budget cuts once again became excited with passion and hope.  And once again, they accepted our invitation to be hosted to a wonderful Teacher Appreciation Banquet and lunch the week of post planning (the last two years have been special as the school administration has chosen to use this event as their school year celebration, complete with a slide show and recognition given for staff excellence).

Is God calling you to share just one hour per week and change the life of a young person?

SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR MISSIONS

Last year, Pastor Mike challenged McDonough Presbyterian's Rev. Rachel Knoll to a contest.  Which church could collect the most school supplies for McDonough Elementary?

The pastor of the losing church would eat a pie.  While the results are still being contested, Mike took the pie but guess who ultimately won?...the children.

Several thousand school supplies were collected by both congregations and presented during one of the school assemblies.  This was a great outreach and we have been asked to help again.

Below is a list of needed supplies.  Many of these, since school has started, are on sale.  Please start shopping and bring these items to the bin located at the bottom of the stairs inside the Griffin Street Door.  Come on McDonough, we need your help!

Needed supplies include:  wide ruled notebook paper, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, scissors, glue sticks, folders, notebooks,
crayons, backpacks, and dry erase markers.
 PRAYER GROUPS START
Do you believer in prayer? Do you think God honors the prayers of the gathered people? Do you care enough about others that you would give up one hour a week to pray for them? Are you free on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 a.m.?

We invite you to join a group of dedicated men and women who pray for the needs of the commuity of faith and every name that is listed on the Prayer Concerns insert, plus more. This group has been meeting for years and the numbers rise and fall but God still blesses their efforts and their request.

Come join us this Wednesday and let's pray together for God's power to fall on God's children. We meet in Room 106 for the Women and Room 107 for the Men.
The Bazaar Is Coming!

Every fall, 1000's of items are collected.  Every fall, 100's of guests and volunteers descend on our The  Rodgers Building  Gymnasium.  Every fall, the call goes out for all of your STUFF!

It is that time of year folks to clean out your attic, your closet, your garage and even under your bed.  The 2010 Fall Bazaar and Flea Market is coming and this year hopes to be bigger than ever.  The date is Saturday, October 9th beginning at 8 a.m.  We will spend Thursday and Friday pricing and setting up.  Wednesday evening we will unload the trailer.

Once again, we hope to have a blue box trailer located in the lower lot for your donations.  Once again, our teams will come to your home if you need help with moving furniture or larger items.  Once again, we will need all hands to make this event a success.  This year, our goal is to raise $15,000 (We raised $6,500 and $11,600 in 2008 and 2009 respectively.)

The registration brochures are printed and will be made available beginning September 1st and online.  We challenge every member to take some home and give them to friends, neighbors and strangers.  This year, you will be able to register online and use our pay pal account to also pay online.  We will be offering K-6th grade boys and girls basketball and cheerleading.  We have begun recruiting coaches, referees and volunteers,  all of which we will train.  More will come regarding our needs.  Our Administrative Board voted unanimously to reaffirm this ministry and the impact it will have in our church and community.  Join us now by praying for this ministry.  Our first games start Dec. 4th.

Is God Calling You On A Mission Trip?

Several of you have asked about our next mission trip.  During this month's Mission Team planning meeting, it was discussed and agreed upon that we should choose one location and commit to supporting that mission ministry with our resources and missionaries, for a period of 3 to 5 years.

We are pleased to announce that initial conversations have begun regarding a return trip to Peru to work with the McEuen Missionary Family (the father, Rev. Ash McEuen is an Ordained Elder in the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church and is under appointment of our Bishop to serve in ministry there.)  This is the same family with which our February 2010 Team worked.  The current date we are looking at would be the week of winter break in the Henry County School System, February 18th - 25th, 2011.

Please be in prayer about this ministry and if God is calling you to go.  As we gather more information, we will begin having information sessions for all who are interested.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

On Sunday, September 26, UMW will sponsor a mission Study entitled " For the Love of God: The Letters of John".

YEARLY OFFERING FOR THE UM CHILDREN'S HOME
We are blessed to have one of the finest homes for Children and Youth in the world. The North Georgia Conference has the privilege of supporting our Children's Home every September with a special offering. In the next few weeks, you will be receiving information regarding this offering. It is our prayer that you will pray and seek direction in the amount you should give to help our children and youth. This is truly a sacrificial gift as it will be above your tithe and pledge to the general budget.

Thank you for having a heart for the children and youth.

Another Word From Dana

Changes occur every day in our lives. Some changes are good and some are difficult. Some changes we can understand and others we can not. For the people of God  change is expected.

We are called by Christ to constantly be growing and becoming all God wants us to become. Change is inevitable and in fact should be embraced and sought.

But what about outside the Christian life, in the business world, the real world? I find that an interesting concept that anything is outside the Christian life. For me all things are entwined with Christ and His call upon our life and it is the REAL world.

Our church staff has experienced a change in the last week. Carol Scott our Office Manager is no longer working with us. This decision was made by the SPR and discussed with Ms. Scott. It was felt that things were not working out as they needed to be. We are praying for Ms. Scott and her family in this difficult time but we also are praying for the church because our ultimate task is to care for the whole church and the ministry we all share in together. God is in charge ...even of change.

I covet your prayers for those who work in our office. I ask that you be patient with us in these days (like a delayed e-note and minor errors in our publications). We are working to find who God desires to be in ministry with us  If you have time to help we won't turn you away.

This is a day of new beginnings ... I know God is changing us for the best.

Grace and Peace,

Dana

Despite his flaws and challenges, in the end Jacob was blessed by God and managed to redeem himself and his broken relationships. If you've ever wrested with God, struggled with relationships or done things you're not proud of, you'll see your self in Jacob's story

Another Word From Dana

God is good all the time, all the time God is good! This African worship chant has taken heart in the US and we hear it often. We hear it often because it is so true.

Yesterday was another God day in worship. The music was truly heavenly and brought me to tears. The powerful words of scripture shook loose the cobwebs of understanding about God's love. The response to the Word touched my heart because I felt God say, "That's right".

I saw Jayne Bray yesterday after Worship and God has done a great work in her and on her. People were all around loving her with the love of the Lord. The prayer shawl the children prayed over ... brought tears of joy to her eyes.

Some of our new college students came to Youth Fellowship last night to say good-bye and leave their mark with those others who have gone before. We prayed over them and sent them forth with God's blessing.

A full day but a great day where we saw that God is good all the time and all the time God is good!

Today is a new day and many things will happen; some we like and some we will be wondering where was God? But my friends, I invite you to hold fast to the African chant, to hold fast to your faith and to see God at work in your life and your situation.

And never forget your pastor loves you!!

Grace and Peace,

Dana

NEW SERMON SERIES - RETHINK CHURCH

Jesus founded the church to carry on His mission: to serve as His hands and voice in the world. He loved broken and lost people. He offered healing and hope and forgiveness. He proclaimed good news of a God who loved prodigal children.

Recent national surveys of young adults reveal a great interest in Jesus, but an antipathy to the church. As one author has put it, "They like Jesus, but not the church." Perhaps this is why according to one recent poll, only 30% of Americans are in worship on a given weekend.

Perhaps it is time to RETHINK CHURCH. This three-week series will challenge us to understand and reclaim Jesus' vision for the church; understand why the church matters to God and seek to become the church Jesus intended.

The Sermons are:

August 1 - What if Church were a Verb?
August 8 - The Church with Open Doors
August 15 - A Christian Community

There is a place for you come and belong!

YOUTH NEWS - Gary Terrell, Minister to Students

McDonough First United Methodist LogoI will be the first to admit it, August is busy... but, when is life not busy? Wow, it's already the 2nd week of school; can you believe it? We've been talking a lot in Youth Fellowship about family, friends and church. We've been discussing how we need to be there for each other, lift each other up and support each other as we begin another school year. We've been talking about relationships, our walk with God, where we are going, and where we are coming from. We've talked about our challenges, what we look forward to and who or what we need to pray for. Our students have a strong foundation in each other as a group here at McDonough First. In fact, I am proud to say that out of all the youth groups I have been a part of in my life, ours is one of the closest. I want to ask each and every person who reads our weekly e-note, to pray daily for our Youth Ministry. Please pray that we continue helping each other through challenges, help each other celebrate successes, and remember what our purpose is. "Together, we celebrate and share the unconditional love of Jesus Christ"...As we Teach the Word of God, Experience the ways of God, Share the love of God, and Serve the people of God."

Humbly yours,

Gary

Another Word From Dana

And they are off! Yes, the traffic up and down Highway 81 shows that school has started. And the frustration of every driver is showing as well, I should know I'm one of them.

Yet, with school starting comes the time for everyone to get back to a life of "normal" and hopefully back into worship. Yesterday, we were blessed with a great day of celebration and joy.

Our 942 Connector moved into the Coan Fellowship Hall and was greeted with over 40 people present. We had a new look and a new sound. It was a great day! I hope you will tell your fiends about the 942 Connector and invite them to join us for this time of contemporary worship and celebration.

Both of our traditional celebrations were so exciting and meaningful as we prayed for our educators, we heard some beautiful music from the choirs and celebrated Holy Communion together.  Between the two Worship Celebrations, we had 390 for a total on Sunday of around 430 present. God is so good to bring us all home.

I want to encourage you to always be in worship so that your soul might be fed and our hearts warmed as we worship together week after week. I also want to invite you to join us for Sunday School and ACTS242 where we have opportunities for growth and fellowship. These three things are vital to the Christian faith and you are vital to their success.

When you have out of town company ... don't skip church, come and share your church family. When you have places to be early in the afternoon, don't skip worship, come to an early celebration. When you have to serve in the ministries of the church at 8:30/9:30 or 11:00 a.m.,don't miss out on worship, choose another service to attend. Let's make worship and study a vital part of our faith in the last 5 months of 2010.

Come, because when you miss I miss you !

Grace and Peace,

MIND, BODY AND SOUL...

Our OVERALL spiritual health requires us to "be in shape" spiritually and physically and that is our goal for this next ACTS242 series.  Beginning August 4, 2010, we will resume gathering for Wednesday Night fellowship dinner at 5:30 p.m. On August 11, 2010, we will begin our fall programs at 6:30 p.m. This fall we are offering Bible Study, self-help, exercise and financial planning programs.  Please see our registration form in Sunday's bulletin or go to our church website and register online. While registration is not required, it will help us to plan for room assignments and class materials.

Whatever your interest, we hope you will find a group or program that you can be a part of.  If we don't offer something that you and others would like to see, let us know and we will make that a part of our planning.  Regardless, we have an extensive offering this fall (too much to list here) so please join us...you won't want to miss it!shingleroofcamp

THANK YOU

Thank you, church family and SPRC for this past week at Georgia's Pastor School.  Our family experienced a wonderful program with great preaching, worship, lectures and children's bible camp while also enjoying the sights, sounds and flavors of Epworth-By-The-Sea (our Methodist coastal jewel) and St. Simon's Island.  We have returned relaxed and rejuvenated.  Thank you, McDonough First, for this time away and for reminding us of the importance of self-care and rest.

This is your last chance to sign up for a trip to the top of Georgia's highest Mountain, Brasstown Bald. You can enjoy a day of hiking and shopping at "Alexander's" (a store that provides fun shopping for both men and women). We will be leaving this Thursday, August 5, 2010, at 8:00 a.m.  The cost is $10.00 per person which includes gas. We will have lunch at the Nat'l Forest picnic area, so bring your own picnic lunch or order one when you sign up for $6.50. Reservations are required, please RSVP to the Church Office at (770) 957-4150.
