Sunday School
"Celebrating Jesus...Through Study"
Here at McDonough First UMC we believe that the Sunday School program is what defines the church. We place a special emphasis on Sunday School as a time of growing in our relationship with God, and our fellowship with each other. We are blessed to have teachers that possess the knowledge and dedication to educate their students. Sunday School meets at 9:30 a.m., and we have classes for every age student, and a professionally staffed nursery for children from six weeks to two years.

Adult Classes
- Billy Fields Class: The Billy Fields Sunday School Class studies the Bible line by line in a lecture with discussion format. The general age group ranges from 55 to 85, but all ages are welcome to this warm, loving, close knit class. In addition, we sing together and emphasize intercessory prayer. Room 218
- Generations: As our name suggests, we welcome all generations and all ages as we re-discover our Wesleyan Heritage. This small group was formed to study the latest materials on what it means to be a United Methodist and how to live that out in the 21st century. Add the following. We are currently studying a wonderful book on Christian Discipleship entitled “The Good and Beautiful God … Knowing the God that Jesus Loved” This is a study lead by members of the Generations Class that helps us grow roots deep into the rich soil of faith. We are seeking to be true Wesleyan disciples of Jesus Christ. Come join us this Sunday. Room 201
- New Beginnings: The New Beginnings Class is an open, friendly adult class whose members span the mid-adult age range. We are committed to building our faith through our weekly lessons and class discussions led by a group of rotating teachers, and we are committed to the support and nurture of one another. Our studies vary throughout the year but they are always biblically based and approved United Methodist curriculum. Please come and experience our fellowship and grow in faith with us. Room 217
- New Horizons: Come and look at New Horizons as we study Biblical history, apologetics, and theology. Our class format is discussion-based and we choose studies that answer whatever burning questions we have. We’re a laid back class; come late if you need to! Most of our members are in their 20’s to early 40’s, but anyone who is inquisitive would make a good class member. Room 202
- Samaritans: The Samaritans class is a class for experienced older adults who still seek wisdom from the Bible. This group uses the New International Lesson series. Room 106
- Searchers: The Searchers Sunday School Class is an adult class, 50-60 age group, of both married couples and singles that uses the UMC Adult Bible Studies lesson series. This provides for a structured lesson with discussion encouraged. We generally have quarterly socials. Room 120
- The Wonder Years: For adults in their 30's and 40's (29 and holding). Our teacher is Mr. Tripp Partain. This class concentrates on a series related to the Bible. An emphasis is placed on class participation and life application. Room 216
- Upper Room: The Upper Room class is an adult class with a wide range of life experience. Our members range in age from 30's through 50's. We study the Bible by reading, discussing and applying it to our lives. We use various study guides written by contemporary Christian authors and Bible teachers, along with United Methodist curriculum. Room 114
- YACHT Club: Y.A.C.H.T. Club (Young Adult Christians and Couples Hanging Together) is our ministry to young adult couples in the church. This group began in the early part of this year as a study group that followed the FireProof curriculum and movie and quickly found a close group to be a part of. We gather each Sunday for Bible study and fellowship and support one another in ministry. The group consists of over 10 young couples ranging in age from mid-40s to mid 30s with young to middle grades children. The group uses topical studies and discussions based around real life issues and continues to be one of our fastest growing class. Come join us, single or married, as we would love to have you as part of the group. Room 214
